Black Mountain BreakAway is a self catering holiday location in the Brecon Beacon’s National Park.
Tucked away behind the Black Mountain in rural Wales, the secluded site provides two custom made shepherd huts for your exclusive use.
This undiscovered part of Carmarthenshire is known for its peaceful way of life, quiet roads and wonderful night skies. If you want to take a break away from the hustle of modern life this is the place.
Reached from a quiet country lane, the huts are sited in an ancient paddock where off road parking is available.
Placed to create maximum privacy, one hut provides a bedroom and sitting area with a wood burning stove while the second hut contains a simple kitchen and a shower room. The compost toilet is situated a little way from the huts linked by an easy access path.
The view from the site is one of rural tranquillity, old fields grazed by local sheep, hills, trees and streams. There are no houses to be seen from the huts, no lights at night, and no neighbours.
This is a place to experience life at a slower pace. There is no wi-fi, phone signal or mains electricity. A solar panel provides light in the huts, a gas cooker enables guests to prepare meals and a gas boiler provides hot water for the shower

“Both huts are very well equipped and the retro look is appealing so no problems about living within the confines of the huts. They are a very good base for exploring the region which has a beauty of its own.” Og

“Pure magic! We had a wonderful break in these beautifully made huts. Could not have asked for anything more. The view from the hill across the stream is really special. Fires, stars, the wild and lovely memories – definitely something to return to. Steff
“Perfect. Bird song, running little river, quiet, peace, a perfect setting, being here is a real pleasure. The huts are also just perfect – cosy, clean, they feel built with love. the stones we gathered from the little river to encircle our camp fire are our little contribution to this perfect hideaway…magic memories of fires, stars and the wild. Would love to return one day. Mat.
Thank you both for a perfect getaway, the huts are absolutely impeccable – every detail has been thought of and your amazing handiwork has truly delighted us. Kirsty and Sam.
We had a really special time so Thank you. We even saw shooting stars while we sat by the fire. Alice and Mike.

Your Huts
We want your break away to be as comfortable and relaxing as possible and with that in mind we have created not one but three huts for your exclusive use. These huts have been made here on the farm and are constructed from reclaimed materials wherever possible. The two main huts feature several windows and ‘stable’ doors to make the most of the view and the fresh air. They are well insulated and designed to be cosy whatever the weather.
The main huts are provided with solar powered lighting as there is no mains supply on the site.
The site is served by the mains water supply and is drinkable.
All the huts are accessed by a short flight of steps which means the accommodation is not suitable for anyone with restricted mobility and, for this, we apologise.
Your Sleeping Hut
The king-sized bed is built into the far end of the hut in the traditional manner but is low enough to access from one side with reasonable ease. Bed linen, a 13.5 tog duvet, non-allergenic pillows and a warm Welsh blanket are provided for your comfort.
This hut also contains a generous sitting area infront of the wood burner. With comfy cushions and throws it is a great space to sit and chat , read, draw or play cards.
Fuel is provided for the wood burning stove which heats the hut beautifully even on the coldest night. The stove has a flat top on which a kettle can be boiled or a saucepan heated.
Your Kitchen and Bathroom Hut
This hut houses a simple kitchen area at one end with a sink, a small gas cooker and an insulated container in which to keep food cool. Ice blocks can be delivered daily in warm weather. The kitchen table provides space for food preparation and a comfortable place to eat. Pans and utensils are provided. Tea, coffee. sugar and milk are provided for your arrival.
At the other end of the hut is the bathroom which contains a modern shower and a vintage wash basin, A gas powered boiler provides plenty of hot water. Towels are provided.
Your Toilet hut
This hut is sited a short distance from the others and is accessed by a maintained path. The toilet forms an important part of our eco-friendly approach to life and features a ‘dry’ system to allow composting of waste material.
Our routine ensures the removal of waste and thorough cleaning of the hut between each booking which reassures our guests that the facilities are spotless on their arrival. The toilet will be cleaned and maintained every other day during your stay.
